I discovered my passion for loving and serving women while I was a missionary and Formator with Christ in the City. As a Catholic non-profit organization whose goal is to know, love, and serve the poor, we spent each week with those who were vulnerable on the streets of Denver.
During my two years as a missionary and two additional years on staff, I encountered the beauty and strength of women. On the streets, I found that oftentimes, women’s voices were neither considered nor respected. Encountering this pattern formed my desire to build a career rooted in intentional, supportive relationships with women. In my years as a formator, I learned the importance of walking with woman in their spiritual, emotional, and physical needs.
While at Christ in the City, I became struck by the scene of Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth in the gospel. She was radically available, fueled by love to serve her cousin devotedly over multiple months of her pregnancy. I saw Mary’s hand in my own similar desire, which led me to pursue a career as a doula.
